Spudlery

Spudlery Logo

Spudlery is an environmental project that tackles to birds with one stone, by tackling both air and water pollution with the creation of a circular economy. Spudlery creates and produces 100% compostable, edible, gluten free cutlery that uses food waste- an alternative to single use plastic cutlery. For example, the average greenhouse gas emissions from producing one single use plastic spoon 2.72 tonnes of CO2 while our compostable cutlery emits 0.00005045 tonnes of CO2 per spoon. This drastically reduces GHG by using food waste to create a valuable product without sacrificing on the functionality of cutlery, while reducing plastic pollution in our water and reusing food wast

Project Manager Intro:

Hello everyone, my name is Melanie Melo, currently enrolled in Business Administration -Project Management program. My role in Enactus George Brown is the Project Manager of Spudlery. I have worked as a Project Coordinator for my dad’s company managing his installation projects, as well as worked at Harvey’s as a Team Member serving customers food. However, I previously had a undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto in both biology and chemistry and volunteered at the university and St Michael’s Hospital as a research volunteer researching lab-on a chip technology and pancreatic cancer.

Being in Enactus has given me memorable experiences, such as working on a formula with the previous Junior Project Manager and rolling out plenty of dough. For one, you’ll probably bake more as Spud then you have within a year (unless of course you love baking.)

Junior Project Manager Intro:

Hello everyone, my name is Renie Hung, currently enrolled in Project Management program. My role in Enactus George Brown is Junior Project Manager in Spudlery. I have worked as a project coordinator in a website development company, as well as the captain trainee in Four Seasons Hotel.

Being in Enactus has given me memorable experiences, such as writing the business plan for grants application, participating in events for presenting our idea, and networking within Enactus.

As an international student in Canada as many students in George Brown College, we all hope that we could make an amazing contribution to GBC and expand our outlook during the school time. I sincerely welcome all new members to join Enactus, and make the amazing contribution to our community!
